I LOVE being on the political Left. Because on the Right are all those that I detest: The sanctimonious gun-owners, those opposed to universal medicine, the supporters of "The American Way," members of the Conservatives of Canada, who just got soundly defeated. After about 10 years of cutting programs, services, everything but taxes. The NEW government is promising NEW SERVICES. Novel idea. No longer is there Kryptonite at every turn, ready to kill our super-hero.
We will return to being who we truly are: a compassionate people of many lands, a leader in most of the planet's most human of advancements, a partner, not so much a curmudgeonly Mr. Grinch.
We will once again be the nation that founded the United Nations, who became loved for sewing the Maple Leaf (our flag) on our backpacks.
It feels GREAT to be us again. We have been gone for too long.
So I just exercised my democratic right to vote in a Canadian federal erection, and hopefully I just helped exorcise Canaduh of its main demon, Stephen Harper (above). Not that polls are anything but glimpses in time.
But heading in, the Liberals, who I voted for, led the polls over the governing Conservatives. My darling New Democrats were in third place and seemed to be sinking.
I want social programs. I want INCREASED government employment, not DECREASED government employment and the fewer services that accompany them. The NDs most fit my comfort zone.
But it appeared they had no hope of winning.
The Liberals promised programs which would put Canaduh further into debt. But which at least GAVE THEM something for their tax dollars.
Perhaps most importantly, the Liberals promised to REVERSE Canada's downward spiral into a hated nation from a peace-keeper, a hawk rather than a dove. It's the ASS Harper is.
No one said life was pleasant, ALL THE TIME. But I'd MUCH RATHER have a compassionate government that's in debt rather than a heartless, henshit group led by Harper.
It would be grossly unfair to characterize Justin Trudeau as a duplicate of his father, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, in my mind Canada's best-ever prime minister in my lifetime. To saddle a young man with such high expectations is grotesque.
But Justin Trudeau at LEAST deserves a chance. Stephen Harper has had 10 years or so. His mark on Canada is a mark of hate. We have NEVER BEFORE needed strength, exhuberance and positivity so much.
This is long, but it is a great interview conducted by the CBC in 2012, I think. It shows the idealism of a young man. But it also shows his drive. Bye, Harper.
So, pardon me for living. But in a matter of days -- Oct. 19 -- we have a federal election here in Canaduh. Almost certainly, and hopefully, our current American lapdog, prime sinister Stephen Harper, will be gone. If the polls are correct, he is in danger of losing. The country, in general, hates him. He has cut services. He has NOT fixed infrastructure. He has laid off civil servants. He has NOT reduced taxes, though he HAS reduced services. That is like your bank INCREASING the monthly service charge you pay, while NOT increasing your services. This all has understandably caused a backlash. Voters, generally, WOULDN'T TRUST HIM AS FAR AS THEY COULD THROW HIM.
The sun IS setting on him (this is at Lake Winnipeg)
We have all gone gonzo.
Several of his senators have cheated the public purse and/or resigned. Election irregularities in previous votes (sending people to the wrong voting locations, so they COULD NOT vote).
He is a SHRIMP on the world stage, in every way, and a country once known for its reasonableness and compassion has suffered on the world stage.
THIS song above says it all, and resonates across our nation. We have become a nation of everyone else, then Harper, AKA Heil Harper, below.
Feel and HEAR our pain. We have gone WAY to the right. It's NOT who we are.
We have a federal erection campaign going on here in Canaduh.
It is the never-ending erection campaign, going on for 5 weeks or so, because our prime sinister, Stephen Harper, hopes that many of us will get so apathetic about how pissed off we are that we just won't vote.
That is how he won last time. The Liberals and Leftist New Democrats split the vote, and the Conservatives sneak up the middle. It is the politics of being an asshole. It is not campaigning honestly.
It is relying on whatever trick you can muster.
He needs to go. Yesterday.
I am still dithering over either the New Democrats, or Liberals. What I know is Harper is out.
I happened to find out from a former blogging buddy, Sharifa, that in fact, some of our blogging buddies STILL BLOGGED.
And I have missed it so. When Farcebook started, I found -- or thought I found -- that all my Blogger buds had gone to the quick, wordsmith (not) quickies of Facebook, and blogging was going extinct.
